Interim senior leadership team member for Skerton Community High School, Lancashire asked to fulfil role by Lancashire LA, an initial fifty-two day contract, HMI visit February 2014 comment on the positive impact of my work. Actions taken:

o    Restructuring of mathematics department and timetable

o    Conduct lesson observations, work scrutiny, learning walks to deliver fast improvement in teaching and learning

o    Internal organisation of structured revision opportunities and groupings for Y11 students

o    Restructuring school timetable to ensure continuity of provision following confirmation of the closure of the school

o    Coaching staff to model how to complete application forms, write letters of application and model the interview process

o    Conduct a Health and Safety audit of an off-site centre and recommend necessary actions to the acting Headteacher and Governors

·         Systems Leader for Torfaen LA, Wales: September 2012 to August 2013:

105 day contract with Torfaen LA, as the LA Systems Leader for Mathematics, developing mathematical teaching and learning through a planned combination of in school support mentoring, coaching and team teaching, regular subject leader meetings, subject development meetings and in school subject leader development and further leading the development and quality assuring the mathematics materials for iLearnWales. Impact Torfaen LA mathematics GCSE rose by 5.6%, one school with intensive support rising by 18.5% to 73.2%

 ·         Mathematics subject specialist for the Welsh Government: April 2013 – ongoing:

Appointed by the Welsh Government as the Subject Specialist for Secondary and Primary Mathematics to lead the Strategic Needs Identification of Welsh Medium mathematics materials, including Financial Management, and to coordinate the production of materials. Projects completed:

o    Four Financial Management novels for KS2 and accompanying interactive material – published July 2015.

o    Six online Welsh Medium mathematics APPS – freely available – published May 2015

 ·         Leading an international mathematics project for the Learning Schools Trust: September 2012 to August 2013:

Developing international mathematics links to share good international practice across three countries Sweden, USA and UK for the Learning Schools Trust and Kunskapsskolan, culminating in an agreed pedagogy and online teacher assessment, support and guidance.

·         Leading the development of online mathematics material: May 2013 to July 2013:

24 day contract with Torfaen LA leading the development of on-line mathematics material for iLearnWales, a joint Torfaen LA and Monmouthshire LA project, and associated quality assurance and professional development for teachers.

University of Wales Trinity St Davids: June 2014 – ongoing

Delivering mathematics training to the second and third cohorts of Welsh TeachFirst students including:

o    Delivering four weeks intensive mathematics training in preparation for a September start in school

o    Plan and deliver six subject development days

o    Conduct six lesson observations per participant

o    Organise and run mathematics mentor training for the school mentors

o    Contribute to the planning for the national mathematics training and lead delivery in Leeds as part of the participants initial training

Creosyceiliog School, Cwmbran: October 2013 to July 2014

6 day contract providing coaching and mentoring to the Subject Leaders of Art, English, mathematics, science and Welsh

The Learning Schools Trust: June 2011 to July 2013:

80 day contract with the Learning Schools Trust providing bespoke CPD for departments, modelling and coaching subject development, improved teaching and learning, improved pedagogies and model and coach departmental leadership across the three academies, including analysis of data and related action/work plans and leading mathematics sessions at the inaugural Learning Schools Trust annual conference, June 2011.

The initial contract was followed by a 20 day contract developing the middle leadership skills of the subject leaders of English and mathematics, specifically in one of four academies, both English and mathematics results increased

West Lakes Academy, Cumbria: September 2012 to July 2013:

10 day contract developing mathematics in an academy by delivering bespoke in house CPD including team teaching, leading departmental meetings on pedagogy, appropriate use of resources, support for a non-specialist, coaching and mentoring two NQTs.

5 day contract working with a subject leader of an all-girls school to develop materials that support group work and functional mathematics and improve the attainment of the students.

·         Departmental development

Richard Rose Central Academy, Carlisle: September 2014 to July 2015

114 day contract with RRCA, working within the school to provide strategic leadership and departmental development via coaching, mentoring, joint planning, team teaching, development of marking, schemes of work and planning, including the development of learning objectives and lesson structure. Joint planning and delivery of revision and intervention for GCSE students. Focused provision of mathematical CPD to non-specialist teachers of mathematics.

Impact: GCSE results in mathematics rose from 46% to 50% and school 5A* to C including English and mathematics rose from 35% to 45%.

Shavington School, Cheshire East: January 2014 to July 2014

As a result of previous work within the school and substantial movement of staff I was awarded a five day contract to develop the teaching of mathematics including lesson observations, team-teaching, succession planning and development of NQTs and non-specialists.

Furness Academy, Cumbria: January 2013 to July 2013

30 day contract with Furness Academy developing the teaching and learning of mathematics through a planned lesson observations, coaching and modelling. A focus on planning, lesson structure and development of an integrated scheme of work that ensured progression from Year 7 to Year 11. Coached the development of a Year 11 Foundation curriculum based on question level analysis, worked acknowledged in OfSTED report. 5A* to C including English and mathematics rose by 11% to 46%.

Learning Schools Trust: September 2012 to August 2014:

Development of the AS and A-Level mathematics and further mathematics modules to provide online independent learning with focused links to real-life applications so that the students understand how the mathematics they are learning has applications beyond the classroom. 

Systems Leader for Torfaen LA, Wales: September 2012 to August 2013:

Development of mathematical content for a GCSE Mathematics revision APP in conjunction with software company CDSM. In May 2014 the APP was featured in the itunes as one of the best GCSE APPs.

Gifted and Talented

·         Learning Schools Trust: September 2012 – May 2014:

Developing a gifted and talented student programme for the four linked academies within the Learning Schools Trust. This includes writing material to be used within the schools to develop their use of mathematics further, contributing to the organisation of a conference in Sweden and developing the Future Architects project along with an award winning architect.

North West Regional Adviser for Secondary Mathematics

Regional Adviser working with 12 of the 23 North West Local Authorities supporting the development of mathematics by providing training, challenge, monitoring and support.

John Ruskin School is a small rural secondary school with about 210 students, August 2009. I successfully led, managed the strategic development and transformation of the school from satisfactory to good in all areas, Ofsted Inspection, April 2009, consistently high CVA and increased student numbers, 29% increase over three years.
